Blair’s recent speech discusses the Middle East

By Zaynah Shaikh

The opportunity to hear the Right Honourable Tony Blair speak was one that I could not refuse. In fact, it would have been quite rude to refuse, considering that ticket and admission was my reward for suffering through midterm exams.

A day to remember; the inauguration of Obama

By Justine Kablack

My journey began with a four o’clock wake up call to catch my flight from Boston to Washington, D.C. Immediately after our early morning flight, my family and I picked up our rental car and headed into the capitol. Since the inauguration was not until the next day, no one expected D.C. to be nearly as crowded and chaotic as it was.
Everyone was required to pick up their tickets at their state representative’s office. When we arrived at Niki Tsongas’ office building, we were shocked to find a huge line of people trailing around the entire block.

As 2009 began, Israel launched an offensive in the Gaza strip. Aside from the political implications of Operation Cast Lead, the humanitarian consequences had a deep impact. February 12, 3:30 A.M. Brent Crane, Julia Prince, Ryan Leggett, Keith Lataille, Sam Boland, Steph Lewis, Mark Benhaim, Katherine Alwan, Jesse Pearce, and I all gathered in the middle of a heavy fog in front of L-S, bundled in sweats and raincoats. We were quite a motley crew, but by the end of the week it was hard to believe that we had not really known each other before we left.

Habitat for Humanity lends helping hand in Philadelphia, PA

By Seda Babroudi

8:00 am: It was cold, everyone was tired, and the air was filled with mild contempt at the fact that they had to gather so early on a Saturday morning. An initial group picture was taken, they huddled to share initial thoughts, and they were on their way!
Welcome to the 2009 Habitat for Humanity Trip to Philadelphia where, apparently, it’s always sunny. Led by teachers Tom Danko and Duncan Wellan, an eclectic bunch of L-S students opted to spend their February break in the historic city of Philadelphia.

By Corey Stock

On Wednesday January 21, and Friday January 23, family members and friends gathered at Bemis Hall to watch LSRHS students sing and act in the style of the English Renaissance, and enjoy a feast served by the students, dressed in Renaissance style.  The first annual Renaissance Madrigal Dinner, under the direction of LSRHS music teacher Ruth Hartt, was about to commence.  All the proceeds of the dinner are going to support the chorus’ trip to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
