Boys’ volleyball overwhelms DCL

By Stuart M. Rault

The Lincoln-Sudbury boys’ volleyball season has been nothing less than what was expected.
The team entered the season with high expectations and very few questions. As for those few questions at the beginning of the season, they have all been answered with their outstanding record of 15-1.
The team’s small hiccup came at the beginning of the season in the first match against strong opponent Newton North. Throughout the match, it was apparent that it was the Warriors’ first match of the season, the flow of the game was off and the Warriors could never take control of the match. After that first game, it was go time for L-S. Since that loss the team has buckled down and hasn’t dropped a match since.
The squad made quick work of most of their competition, winning three out of a possible five games in a row against all but two teams this season. L-S’ domination over all of their opponents has made it a stellar regular season so far. Although the team has won many matches this season, it didn’t come easy. L-S has been practicing hard all season, the squad’s talent and overall knowledge of the game has allowed them to incorporate many complicated but useful “play sets” that throw off opponents.
Drew Corwin, Lucas Rathjens, and Danny Letizi have led the team to many victories. Corwin and Rathjens lead the team in kills this season but it couldn’t have been made possible without Letizi’s consistent setting. Other key contributors to the team this season are Ian Engler, Dave Roussel, Zack Reed, Nick Holden, Ed Lee and juniors Tim Jarrett ,Will Jenkinson, Ollie Kline, and Stuart Rault.
Because the varsity squad is so strong, several JV players have seen considerable playing time in varsity matches.
Overall the boys’ volleyball team looks stronger than ever. They have shown how dominant they are over the DCL and other opponents. They have already clinched a tournament spot. They have clinched the DCL title. The only thing left to add to the list of accolades is a State Championship banner to adorn the decorated walls of Gym One. Achieving that lofty, yet certainly manageable, goal would complete the tri-fecta and put an exclamation mark on this outstanding season.
