LSB play preview - Production of MacBird

By Julia Welsh and Staff

The spring production this year will be Barbara Garson’s highly controversial play, MacBird, directed by John Germanotta. The play is loosely based on William Shakespeare’s masterpiece, Macbeth.
MacBird takes place during the 1960s and is based on the conspiracy theory that Lynden B. Johnson contributed to John F. Kennedy’s assassination. The play starts off with Ken O’ Dunc (a character based on J.F.K) as president. Three witches, a beatnik, revolutionary, and Muslim, mysteriously tell MacBird that he will become vice president and president soon after. Once MacBird hears their prophesy, Robert, Ken O’Dunc’s brother, asks MacBird to be Ken O’Dunc’s second in command. When Lady MacBird hears of her husband’s rise to power, she decides that she needs to expedite the process of MacBird becoming president. So, when the O’ Duncs visit the MacBird ranch, Ken O’ Dunc is not surprisingly assassinated. The play proceeds to show MacBird’s power spiral out of control, which soon leads to his demise. The LS production will feature Justin Sorvillo as MacBird, Stephanie Corbett as Lady MacBird, Jay Kinslow as Ken O’ Dunc, Adam Hodges-LeClaire as Robert, and Sam Cournyn as Ted. With a talented cast, edgy material, and a creative director, the spring play is one you will not want to miss. The production will be running from May 21 to May 24, so be sure to contact John Germanotta to reserve your tickets as soon as possible!
