Boys’ volleyball team falls just short in state finals

by Stuart M. Rault

The L-S boys volleyball team was nothing but excellent throughout the season. The one thing that they failed to do was bring home a state championship banner.
They opened the tournament against Xaverian and won in three easy games.
Next up was rival Natick, who L-S lost to last year in the tournament. Unlike last year, the Warriors quickly took commanding leads in all games and won with ease 3-0. This brought the Warriors to the Central Regional Finals, a level they had never surpassed.

Disappointing end to season for girls lacrosse

by Addy Quirk

When walking out to the turf field for practice in the first week of June, the girls varsity lacrosse team didn’t see much besides empty fields. Aside from boys’ volleyball and track and field, the girls’ lacrosse team was the last spring sport standing.
After an undefeated season in the DCL, the Warriors won the title of DCL Champions for the fourth year in a row. The only flaw to the almost-perfect season was their loss against the defending state champions, the Framingham Flyers, in early May.

Boys’ lax beats Beverly in first round, defeated in second round by Xaverian

by John Sinnigen

The L-S boys lacrosse team beat Beverly 16-3 in the opening round of the postseason tournament. For the boys team, who missed the tournament last year for the first time in the program’s history, it was good to get a win.
“This was a big win for us,” said senior quad captain Jon McIvor. “No one is expecting us to do much this year in the tournament, but the team is really hitting its stride and playing some good lacrosse, and we really think that we can shock some people.”

The L-S boys’ rugby team capped off one of their most successful seasons finishing with a 12-4 record, and a second place finish in the New England Rugby Football Union High School Rugby Championships, which serves as the league’s playoffs.
At the tournament, the Warriors were 5-1 in games that were 30 minutes long and 7-3 in games that were 60 minutes long. During the tournament, the team avenged an early season loss to Middlesex County by beating them 12-5. The tension was palpable between the two rivals, but the Warriors prevailed.

Track team success based on contributions of all grades

By Jason Goldfarb

The L-S boys’ track team is continuing to shine in the DCL, though Coach Mel Gonsalves says that there is plenty of room for improvement.
“We’re going to need to be firing on all cylinders for our upcoming meets. We’re going to need maximum effort from everyone here on in,” Gonsalves said.
The Warriors are currently 3-1 in the DCL, but they feel that by the end of the week they can get their record up to 5-1 and be in contention to tie for the championship of the DCL.
