Veritable ‘Monsoon’ of flavor hits Maynard

by Sophie Griswold

If you’re looking for delicious, reasonably priced Indian food close by, then Monsoon Indian Bistro with locations in Acton and Maynard is the restaurant for you. This traditional Indian eatery is simultaneously healthy and tasty. In fact, the L-S nutrition class frequents Monsoon thanks to a menu replete with healthy choices.
Although vegetarians will feel at home in this subcontinental cantina as a result of the traditional Indian diet that excludes meat, Monsoon also caters to carnivores. The heavy spices and full flavor that characterize Indian food is applied to lamb, chicken and most decidedly untraditional, beef (which, to Hindus, is more or less like eating your best friend).
At the same time, however, Indian food is not for picky eaters, as it differs significantly from the western diet. Employing an array of spices rarely used in western cuisine, Indian food is a refreshing alternative to the obligatory burger and fries so cherished in the United States. At once creamy and spicy, spinach based Saag Paneer goes well with rice or Indian naan bread. Kabuli Chana, a heavily spiced chick pea dish, is savory but not overwhelming. To cap it all off, Monsoon offers rice pudding for desert.
Monsoon offers a calm, cool atmosphere with Indian decor and music adding to the overall ambiance. Good service, reasonable prices, and great food make Monsoon a destination for the fan of foreign cuisine.
